MONDAY TEAMS

The Pivot Teams has had 3 sessions now, and – as from the start - in the lead is the team of  Joe Angseesing, Roger Jackson, Noel Downes and Graham Sadie. So far they have only lost to the second place team, led by Geoff Peel. Full results.

The Summer Teams has started and winners of session two with +107 imps were Joe & Wendy Angseesing, Jim Simons & Peter Waggett.

League Division One winners – again – are Richard Chamberlain, Paul Denning, Andrew Kambites and Patrick Shields. They beat Keith Stanley’s team 18-2 in the final match to overtake them.

The winners of Division Two are the team of Pam Pearce, Geoff & Joan Peel, Allan Sanis and Keith Sharpe with a 75% score overall. In Division Three the winners are Roman Klis, Geoff Nuttall, KA & Veronica Rahim and  Roger Timmins.  Full results. 

In the County Knock-Out only the teams led by Paul Denning and by Derek Rue remain. At half-time the former lead by 10 imps.

The Swiss teams has finished! The final was won by Joe & Wendy Angseesing, Graham Sadie & Peter Waggett – just 2 VPs ahead of the John Atthey team.  Full results.  In the remainder of the field, Paul Denning's (Noel Downes, Tony Hill, Tony Truluck) finished with four wins to be clear leaders.  Full results

In the 2001 Summer Teams we have now played all five sessions. The clear winner is Roger Jackson with three wins from four sessions (38 points). Second place goes to Ian Constable with Val Constable in third. 

The 2001 Pivot Teams was won by John Atthey, Ian & Val Constable, John Goodwin, and Andrew Kambites. Their convincing win in the last round pulled them ahead of two other teams who had been leading at that point. 
 

 

MONDAY PAIRS

There have now been three sessions of the Summer Pairs. The clear leader off handicap is Judy Sanis. Patrick Shields leads off scratch.

 

The Winter Pairs has completed, and the winners (both scratch & handicap) - who skipped the last session rather than spoil their score - are Joe Angseesing & Tony Hill. Second on scratch is Wendy Angseesing & Peter Waggett while on  handicap it is Howard Davies & Nick Symonds. Full results. 

The Swiss Pairs has finished and the leaders with a session to go held on to win on a split tie. Well done to Paul Denning & Tony Hill (208 VPs from a possible 300) followed by Graham Sadie & Patrick Shields (ditto). Then comes Roy Collard & Mark Hearsey.  Full results

In the Visitor's night pairs the winners were Tony Hill & Martin Garvey as North-South with +112, and GT VanDerGucht & OJ Windsor-Clive as East-West with +89 imps. 

The Summer Pairs is now complete. Of the 80 players who took part, only five people played in all 10 sessions and only one of those managed a different partner in each. That was Rahim, but the average of his 5 best scores was over 2% behind the winner - Roman Klis. Roman played with 8 different partners over 9 sessions and never once came below average (two others - but each playing only 3 sessions - managed not to come below average). In third place was Paul Denning. 

 
 

WEEKEND & SPECIAL EVENTS

The County Knock Out was won by Richard Chamberlain, Paul Denning, Andrew Kambites and Patrick Shields. The margin was just 4 imps.

 

The winners of the Mixed Pairs are Ian & Val Constable. The Flitch winners are Joe & Wendy Angseesing who came 2nd.

 

The Cheltenham team won the regional final of the Garden Cities (team-of-8) in Bristol in May.

Latest results in the Clubs League

 

The Rank Xerox trophy was won by the team from British Energy, over 100 imps clear of second place. Four of the other 5 teams had minus scores. 

The No Fear Pairs was won by Mary Bridgewater & Hussein Fatemian, with Nancy Kemp & Alliette Sladen in second place. 

The Ace of Clubs Pairs was won by KA and Veronica Rahim (qualifiers from Chalford Hill), followed by James & Mark Rogers (from Corinium) and Mrs J Padley & H Fatemian (Charlton Kings). Full results. 

The County Pairs was won by Richard Chamberlain & Andrew Kambites, with Joe Angseesing & Roger Jackson in second place; third were Geoff Hardy & Cynthia Moore.

In the County Individual the clear winner was Joe Angseesing with a 65% session; second place went jointly to Val Constable & Nigel Hayman. 

The Leslie Everett Cup was won by Richard Hennell, Barbara Janes, Heather Parker,  and Ruby Wissenden. The team comprising three Constables and Alan Wearmouth came second by a mere 1 imp. The non-expert prize went to Chris Phillips, John Prosser, Neville Richards and Duncan Toise. 

The Ladies Pairs was won by Lindsey Geddes & Anne Swannell, with Val Constable & Barbara Janes in second place. In the Mens Pairs it was Joe Angseesing & Roger Jackson, followed by John Goodwin & Albert Sproston. 

The Leonard Cup was won by Mary Jones & Janet Smith, with Anne Fletcher & Mary Ford in second place. 

The Bredon Vale Cup was won by the defending champions Gloucester, represented by A Sproston, OSE Davies, G Hannaford and P Kendall.  The Charlton Kings B team came second. 

 

 

Results in External Competitions

In the Welsh Seniors two Gloucestershire teams fought bravely to the end with victory going to Ian & Val Constable, with Andrew Kambites and Marco Alcalay. (Jun02)

In the Swiss Pairs at the Blackpool Year End Congress, Derek Rue & Allan Sanis  won the trophy with a match to spare.  (Dec01) 

Tollemache Qualifying round (Nov01) : the County team, captained by KeithStanley, came second in their group and qualified for the final. Well done to John Atthey & Ben Pritchard, Joe Angseesing & Roger Jackson, Richard Butland & Graham Cornell, Richard Chamberlain & Andrew Kambites, Paul Denning & Patrick Shields. 

Seniors Congress (Nov01) : the Pairs Championship was retained by Derek Rue & Keith Stanley with an impressive margin of 3% over the second placed pair. They also came second in the teams, playing with Hassett & Hirst from Manchester. 

The Midland Circle Swiss teams (Sep01) was won by the GBCA representatives - Pam Pearce & Judy Sanis, Allan Sanis & Keith Sharp. Well done.

Worcester Green Point Swiss (Sep01): two Cheltenham teams were well placed going into the last round but failed to sparkle then; both teams - John Atthey & Andrew Kambites, Ian & Val Constable, and Richard Butland & Graham Cornell, Graham Sadie & Keith Stanley - came third. 

In the Green Point Swiss Teams at the Cheltenham Racecourse (Sep01), the winners were Wendy Angseesing & Peter Waggett, Steve Darke & David Hope. 

English Trials (Sep01): two county players (but no county partnerships) were involved. After two weekends Tony Hill's team rested with a positive score, and Ben Pritchard's team with a negative score. 

Midland Circle Swiss Teams (Sep01) : was won by the GBCA representatives - Pam Pearce & Judy Sanis, Allan Sanis & Keith Sharp. Well done. 

Welsh Foursomes (Sep01) : some did attend, but no luck to report. 

English Junior Trials (Aug01) : John Atthey, playing with Ben Green from the Midlands, has easily won the under-20s section and has been selected to represent England in that age group. Ben Pritchard competed in the under-25 group (with Richard Probst) and ended 5th. 

Brighton Congress (Aug01): in the Swiss Pairs the best result was by Ben Pritchard (playing with Richard Probst) equal 20th,  just 2 VPs ahead of Martin Kane & Patricxk Shields. In the Swiss Teams Ben is again the leading light, coming second in the A-final, while Chris Kinloch and (in another team) Allan & Judy Sanis qualified for the B-final (and came 5th, 6th respectively). In the remainder of the field, the best Gloucerstershire pairs was Derek Rue & Keith Stanley, playing with Tony Sowter & Bill Townsend respectively, who came fifth. 

Britghton (European) Seniorns Congress: Derek Rue & Keith Stanley didn't do as well this year in the pairs, but did almost as in the teams, ending 2nd (not 1st) playing with Jepson & Littlewood. Meanwhile Roger Jackson, playing with Tony Gordon, came 6th in the Seniors Pairs. 

Mid-Wales Congress (Jul01): some did attend, but no trophies were brought home.
