MONDAY TEAMS

The Summer Teams has completed and, despite scoring “nil points” in the final session, the joint winners are Joe & Wendy Angseesing. Third lace went to Patrick Shields.

 

The only time these three weren’t leading the winning team, it was won by

-       Vanessa Allinson, Lesley Harrison, Pam Pearce and Keith Sharp

 

The Pivot Teams has now completed and – as from the start - in the lead is the team of  Joe Angseesing, Roger Jackson, Noel Downes and Graham Sadie. They had won before they lost the last match 1-19. In second place were the teams of Paul Denning, John Rookwood, Derek Rue & Patrick shields; and of Wendy Angseesing, Roy Collard, Patrick Phair, Jim Simons & Peter Waggett. Full results.

 

MONDAY PAIRS

The Summer Pairs has completed – all 9 sessions including four bank holidays. Three players missed no session, and 84 different people turned up. Average attendance was 16 pairs.

 

The handicap winner was Judy Sanis over 2% clear of Pam Pearce. On scratch the winner was Patrick Shields, followed by Joe Angseesing.

 

 
 

WEEKEND & SPECIAL EVENTS

The Jubilee Teams organised very effectively by the Cheltenham Bridge Club attracted 23 teams and the winning team was Derek Rue, Helen & Paul Tempest and Eve Dent. Second place was Martin Kane, Daphne Smith, Francis & Jane Otway.

 

The Cotswold Cup was won by Ian & Val Constable, Lyn Hayes and Alan Wearmouth. In second place was the team from Stroud – Martin Chance & Roger Miles,  John Hayton & Mike Pritchett.

 

The County Knock Out was won by Richard Chamberlain, Paul Denning, Andrew Kambites and Patrick Shields. The margin was just 4 imps.

 

The winners of the Mixed Pairs are Ian & Val Constable. The Flitch winners are Joe & Wendy Angseesing who came 2nd.

 

The Cheltenham team won the regional final of the Garden Cities (team-of-8) in Bristol in May.

In the Brighton Swiss Pairs, the best place from this county was Derek Rue in =20th with Tony Sowter, followed by Ray Foulds & Anne Swannell in =57th. Also in the top 20% of the field were Roy Collard & Mark Hearsey, Roger Jackson, Tony Bullen. In the Seniors Congress Pairs best placed was Allan Sanis & Keith Sharp in 5th place. [Aug02]

In the East/West Wales One Day Swiss teams, first prize went to Joe Angseesing & Andrew Kambites, Martin Kane & Patrick Shields. [Aug02]

In the mid-Wales teams at Llandridnod Wells, the winning team included Paul Denning but the 4th team was all Gloucestershire – Ray Foulds, Anne Swannell, Alex Welsby, Peter Walker. [Jul02]

In the World Wide Simultaneous Pairs on 7th June, a 70.95% session enabled Alex Selsby and Colin Wadsworth to achieve 3rd position in the UK, from well over 1100 players. [Jun02]

In the Garden Cities trophy (national inter-clubs team-of-8) Cheltenham, representing Gloucestershire, came second to Farnborough (Kent) for the second year running. Cheltenham have won the trophy previously in 1997 and 1998. (Jun02)

In the Welsh Seniors two Gloucestershire teams fought bravely to the end with victory going to Ian & Val Constable, with Andrew Kambites and Marco Alcalay. Second place went to Norah Allen & Ray Foulds, Geoff & Joan Peel. (Jun02)
