WHY BUY THIS BOOK RATHER THAN A BETTER-KNOWN GUIDE BOOK?

One of the problems with buying a well-known guide book is that you will inevitably see the same sights as everybody else, stay at the same places, do all the same things. If you use accommodation recommended by a famous book, it may well not be good by the time that you get there. Business is secure once there is a recommendation in a famous book, so the owners do not need to worry any more. Quite often you will find such places overcrowded, dirty, and unconcerned about their guests. In fact, the original owners may well have capitalised on their luck, sold up at a good price and gone. This is not always the case, but quite often it does happen. It is not really the fault of the guide books, of course. They are trapped by their own popularity and success.

Even if you do not have such experiences, you are almost sure to find that if you use a well-known book, you are following a correspondingly well-beaten track always in the company of other travellers all clutching the same book.

Why not try something different? Jim has put a lot of effort into trying to make these books reliable and accurate. It is difficult to succeed in competition with the big names in travel publishing, but if you use one of these books you will have the opportunity to see something a little different from other travellers while still feeling the security of possessing reliable information offering plenty of choices.

These books cater particularly for the needs of the traveller of limited means, since that is what Jim is (and will certainly remain so until a few more of his contemporaries buy his books!). However, the books are suitable for independent travellers on any budget, in fact, as they give details of all types of accommodation and transport.
