MONDAY TEAMS

With one session to go in the Summer Teams the core of one team Graham Sadie, Patrick Shields and Jim Simons is in the lead with 23 points, followed closely by the core of another - Joe & Wendy Angseesing & Peter Waggett on 22. It’s not all over since the next three in the list could overtake them all – good luck needed for Roy Collard, Pam Pearce and Steve Evans.

 

After the last round of the Pivot Teams, we have yet a different team in the lead namely Wendy Angseesing & Roy Collard, who normally team with Mark Hearsey & Peter Waggett but played this last session with Patrick Phair & Jim Simons. Graham Sadie’s team produced the best score on the last evening but ended second. Alan Wearmouth’s team was the only team not to lose a match on the last evening but they still moved back two places to fifth!  Full results are available.

 

The County League has all but completed now. Division One winners are Richard Butland, Richard Chamberlain, Paul Denning, Graham Cornell & Andrew Kambites. They scored 140 VPs from a possible 160, followed by Joe Angseesing’s team on 136 and Patrick Shields’ team on 133 VPs.

 

In Division Two well done to Paul Ford, Heather Parker, Guy VanderGucht and Ruby Wissenden who won with one match still to go. Second place went to Geoff Hardy’s team.

 

In Division Three the Lesley Harrison team (Steve Evans, Geoff Peel, Joan Peel) held on to win, with the lowest score and by the smallest margin of all three divisions. Second was John Hayton’s team. Full results are available.

 

In the last round of the Swiss Teams three of the top four teams were potential winners with one match to go but in the end it went to Roger Jackson, Diana Nettleton, Patrick Shields with Richard Chamberlain substituting for John Rookwood. Full results. In the Swiss Teams remainder the team of John Goodwin, Ian & Val Constable, and Lyn Hayes produced 38/40 VPs in the last session to win the trophy comfortably. MONDAY PAIRS

After six sessions in the Summer Pairs Val Constable retains the lead off handicap and off scratch, and is followed by Vanessa Allinson then KA Rahim in the former, and by Wendy Angseesing and then KA Rahim in the latter.

 

The Winter Pairs has completed and the winners are (handicap) Andrew Kambites & Gill Weaver and (scratch) Joe Angseesing & Tony Hill. Runners up in the two cases were Richard Hennel & Peter Walker, Patrick Shields & Peter Waggett respectively.  Full VP scores are now available.

 

The final fifth session of the Swiss Pairs left the same top two pairs, with margins between them of over a full match.  Winners were Ian Constable & Alan Wearmouth, followed by Graham Sadie & Patrick Shields. Third place was taken by Wendy Angseesing & Peter Waggett.  Full results are available.

 

The GCBA Ladies Pairs was won by Cynthia Moore and Mary Jones, with Lindsay Geddes and Anne Swannell in second place.

 

The GCBA Mens Pairs was won by a very high scoring Joe Angseesing & Roger Jackson, with Peter Bird and Tony Davey in second place.

 

The Visitors Pairs night saw 18 pairs team up with the Welsh Team to play some hands from the recent European Championship. The winners NS were Megan Davis & Margaret Sykes, and EW were Ian Constable & Angela Verrion.

 

 
 

WEEKEND & SPECIAL EVENTS

A special individual movement was held on Mon 7th July. The winner was Roman Klis, followed closely by Albert Sproston and then Geoff Foster.

 

The County Knock-Out  has been won by SHIELDS (Chamberlain, Denning, Kambites) who beat HARRISON (Evans, Peel, Peel) by 65 imps in the final. The full draw is available.

 

The GCBA Mixed Pairs was won by Allan and Judy Sanis, with Derek Rue & Barbara Janes in second place. The Flitch trophy (next best married couple) goes to KA and Veronica Rahim.

 

The Cotswold Cup was won by Vanessa Allinson, Pam Pearce, Anne Swannell & Peter Walker.

 

The Rank Xerox inter-club team-of-8 was won for the second year running by British Energy, but this year with a margin reduced by over 100 imps! The players wereJon Nicholls & Ted Hill,  Liz Bourne & Glenn Bourne, Anne Thomas & David Simpson, Peter Swales & S Custom-Baker. Full results.

 

The Ace of Clubs Final went to Stroud – first place was Jill Harding & Nigel Pitel, followed by Anna MacBean & Mike Pritchett. Pairs from qualifying rounds in 8 different clubs took part. Full results are available.

 

The County Pairs final has been won by Anne Swannell & Peter Walker. These together with the next two pairs – Richard Chamberlain & Andrew Kambites, Tony Hill & Graham Sadie – will represent the County in the Corwen Trophy in June.

 

The No Fear Pairs was won by Jean Jackson &  Jane Rowley, just two points ahead of last year’s winners, Mrs A Bridgewater & Hussein Fatemian.

 

The County Individual was won by John Hayton, with Paul Denning two points behind and Patrick Phair in third. Twenty players competed.

 

Latest results in the Clubs League are now available. 

 

The Leonard Cup was won by Mrs M Brenton and Mrs GV Grant Duff. In second place were N Kemp and Alliette Sladen.

 

The Bredon Vale Cup was won by Cheltenham A (Andrew Courtman & Geoff Foster, KA & Veronica Rahim). British Energy (Jim Muirhead, Jon Nicholls, Dave Simpson, Anne Thomas) came second.

 

The Everett Cup was won by a team from Warwickshire, and the team of Pam Pearce, R Proctor, Allan & Judy Sanis came second.

 

In the Green Point Swiss Teams at the Cheltenham Racecourse, the winners were Richard Chamberlain & Chris Kinloch, Graham Sadie & Patrick Shields. They were only one point ahead of Richard Hennell & Barbara Janes, Geoff & Joan Peel – who had beaten them by 1 imp in the penultimate round. Full results are available from the EBU.

In the mid-Wales Congress in Llandridnod Wells, the Gloucestershire squad of Ray Foulds, Judy Sanis,  Alex Selsby, and Anne Swanell came 5th of 58 teams. [Jul03]

Derek Rue & Keith Stanley played in the Seniors Pairs at the European Open Championship in Menton, and just missed reaching the A-final. Roger Jackson played in the Mixed Pairs with Janine Ford, and with Tony Gordon in the Seniors Pairs. [Jun03]

In the Garden Cities National Final, the Cheltenham team came equal 2nd with two others, losing to Manchester – the winners – in the last round. [Jun03]

A team from Newent Bridge Club (Ron Carter, Alan Lander, Judy Sanis and Guy VanderGucht) came second in the Hereford Invitation Swiss teams [May03]

In the EBU Spring Congress at Bournemouth, Derek Rue & Keith Stanley reached the top pairs final and came 11th of the 28 there. [May03]

The last of the County’s entry in Crockfords (Paul Denning & Patrick Shields, playing with Peter Goodman & Adrian Thomas from Wales) lost their 4th round match to a team from Bristol who now proceed to the final in May. Only by 6 imps. [Apr03]

In the EBU Congress at Harrogate, Anne Swannell & Peter Walker came 11th in the Swiss Pairs [Feb03]

In the EBU’s Madiera Congress the best county results were in the Mixed Pairs (Judy Sanis & Derek Rue, 4th of 67) and in the Mixed Fours (Heather Parker, Geoff & Joan Peel, and Ruby Wissenden, 6th of 54). [Feb03]

In the Midlands Congress, Pam Pearce & Lesley Harrison won the Ladies Pairs. [Jan03]

In the Ladies Teams, Lyn Hayes reached the final (but lost) and the team with Judy Sanis & Anne Swannell were second in the consolation Swiss Teams. [Dec02]

In the Tollemache Qualifying round, the county did badly, finished with an above average score but having squandered too many chances to deserve to qualify [Nov02]

In the Seniors Congress at Kenilworth, the best county results were Derek Rue & Keith Stanley who were 5th in the pairs and 8th in the teams. [Nov02]

The team representing Gloucestershire – Goeff & Joan Peel, Alex Selsby & Anne Swannell – won the MacFarlane Cup in Derby [Oct02]

In the first Welsh Invitation Pairs, Paul Denning and Patrick Shields came in the middle [Sep02]

In the Swiss Teams at the Coventry BC Congress, a foursome from Cheltenham – Roger Jackson & Keith Stanley, Graham Sadie & Patrick Shields – came second after leading most of the way. [Sep02]
